Key West Lions Club Peace Poster Contest Entries Due on October 26,2007

Lions Club Peace Poster Contest

The Lions International Peace Poster Contest provides children ages 11-13, with the opportunity to express their interpretation of “world peace” by drawing, sketching or painting a poster-sized representation of the contest theme. Designed to spark the artists’ imagination, a different theme is developed each year for the contest.

HISTORY

The Peace Poster program was established by Lions Clubs International, the world’s largest service organization, “to create and foster a spirit of understanding among the peoples of the world,” and to help Lions nurture and sustain positive relationships with local youth.
Since its inception in 1988, nearly three million children, from approximately 75 countries around the world, have participated in the contest. This year, over 350,000 posters were submitted from approximately 575 countries.

ENTRIES AND JUDGING

Lions club members partner with local schools and youth groups to promote the contest and collect entries. Posters are reviewed at four levels of judging: club, district (region), multiple district (state or country) and international.  At each judging level every poster is evaluated for its accurate portrayal of theme, originality and artistic merit.Judging narrows the field to 24 finalist posters and international judges select the grand prizewinner. The grand prizewinner receives US$2,500 and a trip for the artist, two family members and club president to attend a special awards ceremony on Lions Day with the United Nations. The 23 merit award winners each receive US$500 and a framed certificate.
